Hula Hoop Dreams
Hula hoops may have peaked in popularity in the 1950's but they have never gone away completely. In fact, they have been showing up recently in some very, um, modern ways. Many of you have played the Wii Fit game where you try to catch as many hula hoops as possible and keep them spinning as fast as possible. You can also take hula hoop classes for a good cause. Then, there's dance diva Grace Jones. At 61 years old, she not only hula hoops during her 2009 concert in London but also sings her hit, "Slave to the Rhythm" while doing it. In a leotard. And holding finger bells. No, really. It looks like hula hoops are a great way to get (and stay) in shape for years to come. -- E. Christian Moore (Special thanks to Taj Paxton)

Hooping has become really popular again, especially in club environments. (Search for Hooping on YouTube and look at all the results!) Hoopnotica has some really pretty adult-sized hoops and great instructional DVDs, but you can find hoops and tutorials on other sites, too. I got my first adult-sized hoop about four months ago, and it's so much fun. I'd definitely recommend hooping for exercise to anyone--it's a good cardio workout, but it doesn't put a lot of stress on your joints.

When I started college, I was originally studying for a degree in social sciences, but then I transferred to do a bachelor of circus arts, specialising in trapeze and hoola hoops. I've been hoola hooping ever since, and don't know how to live without them. They're great exercise, and really fun. I'm also quite interested in fashion, and so I colour co-ordinate my hoops with my costumes. How many hoops do I own? Oh, around 102 at this stage."

This was a very interesting post. Has anyone here heard of HoopDaLoop? They make water-weighted hula hoops, hand-made, in Columbus, Indiana. They are way easier to use and shred inches off of your mid-section. You can find them at http://www.hoopdaloop.com

Hoopdaloop is a small business that was purchased by the owner's married boyfriend. Avoid doing business with them.
