President's Day Doll Controversy
By now you've probably heard about the controversy spawned by the Sasha and Malia dolls sold by Ty's Toys. Well, we all thought that once the dolls were pulled from toy store shelves (both real and virtual) and that the names were changed (to protect the innocent, as it were) all the fuss would be over. Wrong. It seems as though the demand (and price) for the dolls has skyrocketed, with a set of both dolls going for $1,000 and up. (Some even speculate that the price could go as high as $5,000 for a set.) Besides the obvious, I wonder what President Obama would have to say about his likeness being used in such a way? I think fellow Toy Whimsy blogger Laura McMullan might have some thoughts on that as well. -- E. Christian Moore

I personally don't see what the big deal is. Whether
the names were used purposely or not, they are dolls.
I could see if the names were used in a disrespectful way but dolls, come on. Doesn't this country have much more pressing issues to worry about. I think it was all blow out of porportion.
